While the splash screen that shows up when you’re loading your computer is probably one of the least important elements of a computing experience, there’s no reason you should have to stick with the boot logo the computer manufacturer throws on your system. Hax0rpedia has posted instructions for hacking the Acer Asipre One BIOS to replace the default splash screen with a custom image. It should work with any JPG, BMP, or PCX image.

The procedure does require reflashing your system BIOS with a hacked file (you’ll be the one doing the hacking). So if that sounds scary, you might want to avoid this particular modification. Worst case scenario: you mess something up and leave your computer in an unbootable state. But if you’re comfortable loading hacked ROMs and have a good idea how to follow directions (and recover from errors), have at it.
