nb200-unboxed

The Toshiba Mini NB200, also known as the Dynabook UX is now on sale in Japan. And since netbook blog Portable Monkey happens to be based on Japan, they were able to pick one up and start to put it through its paces.

The long and short of it is that Toshiba’s first 10 inch netbok looks like a huge improvement over the 8.9 inch Toshiba NB100. The new model has an excellent metallic build with a keyboard that looks a lot like the one on the Asus Eee PC 1000HE, although Portable Monkey says it looks more like a Sony Vaio P keyboard thanks to the silver color. The touchpad is nice and wide, and has two separate buttons.

It looks like the netbook shoudl be easy to upgrade, since there are access panels on the bottom for the RAM, hard drive, and other components.

Looks really nice, but a lot of netbooks are missing the mark for me by implementing such crappy batteries. If this is a super mobile computer I expect it to be able to run for at least 6+ hours. That being said, as nice as this thing looks, you can see even the 3cell battery they include bulges out the bottom of the chassis. The ASUS EEE 1000HE and NC10 are both quite well at hiding the size of the battery within themselves. I hope to see more netbook makers follow this.
