Radio Shack, AT&T offer subsidized Acer Aspire One for $80

Radio Shack

While the race toward a $100 netbook continues, there’s a parallel race taking place: The journey toward a $0 netbook thanks to wireless carrier subsidies. Radio Shack is now offering an 8.9 inch Acer Aspire One netbook in stores for $80. In order to get this dirt cheap computer you’ll need to sign up for a 2 year wireless data plan with AT&T which will set you back $1440 over the life of your contract. But if you were planning on spending that kind of money on a netbook or laptop data plan anyway, this is a pretty good deal.

Of course, if you’re in Philadelphia or Atlanta, you might be able to find a netbook for as little as $50 at an AT&T store. Meanwhile, Verizon is getting ready to begin offering netbooks in its own stores.
