Liliputing birthday bash: Liliputing turns 1 and we’re throwing a party

While I’ve been writing about netbooks since I picked up my first Asus Eee PC 701 in November, 2007, Liliputing was born in April of 2008. And so on this one year anniversary I’ve decided to throw a month-long birthday party.

Over the course of April, I’ll be holding a number of contests to give away goodies. Each contest will be a bit different. Some will be open to contestants anywhere in the world, while others will be geographically restricted due to my agreements with the contest sponsors. But I do want to thank the companies that have already signed on to sponsor some of the upcoming competitions:

  • Asus
  • HP
  • Ultimate Netbook
  • FidoHub

If you or someone you know might want to sponsor a contest, there’s still time to get on board. Just hit the contact button at the top of the page and send me a note.

It’s been an amazing year in the netbook space. Twelve months ago there were only a handful of companies selling sub-$500 laptops with 10 inch or smaller displays. Today there are dozens. And there are two major trends: mini-laptops are getting both cheaper and more powerful.

Meanwhile Liliputing has grown from a little site with less than 100,000 page views a month to a destination that receives over 800,000 page views every month. We’ve launched forums, a powerful product database (powered by UMPC Portal), and published nearly 1800 articles over the last year, including a number of in-depth netbook reviews. I’m looking forward to doing a lot more this year, and covering even more exciting news as the netbook and ultraportable laptop industry continues to grow.

The first contest will get underway later this morning. But I’ll also be updated this page with information about each contest as it goes live, so you might want to bookmark this page.

  • Week 1: Universal notebook battery from Ultimate Netbook – contest ended
  • Week 2: Asus slim, USB powered DVD±R/RW drive – contest ended
  • Week 3.1: Universal netbook carrying case - contest ended
  • Week 3.2: FidoHub Touchscreen kit – contest ended
  • Weel 4: HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition – contest ended

I just started visiting the site when my quiet interest in netbooks turned into “needing” one. Now I visit several times a day!

    Happy birthday!

  • Drew

Awesome! I read this blog every day. It is a great site! Keep it up!

  • DougC3

I just took a trip down memory lane last week and traced Liliputing and the previous site to their beginnings (and saw my first embarrassing and confused post).

It's good that all the info is being maintained. It's still surprisingly pertinent and provides a good historical perspective of the mushrooming netbook phenomenon.

Congratulations on surviving the first year. ^_^ I, like Drew, am an avid reader of this blog and I wish you many more successes in the future.

Thanks for the wonderful site. ^^_

COOL! I Love this site…it just gets better…sure hope its not some wicked April's fool joke!

  • Stevjosco

    Happy Birthday Liliputing.

I'm an April baby as well… but a long way past my first birthday :-)

    Happy Birthday o/

April Fool day pranks? Who would do such a thing on their site? I'll get my coat ;) !

Congrats, your blog is one of my few daily reads, keep up the good work!

  • Mikez

One of the few “NetBook” sites that has remained interesting for the entire year.
    Keep it up Brad.

  • BoloMKXXVIII

Wow, a year went by really fast. You are doing a great job Brad. Liliputing is always an interesting read. There are a lot of sites that cover netbooks, but none cover the full range nor stay as current with information as Liliputing. As the number of netbooks continues to grow it will become an even greater challenge to keep up with all the news (and maintain your database) but I know you can do it. Thank you for everything.

  • pauli

    congratulations!

so… did any of the liliputing birthday presents include a spellchecker?

  • Mikez

Too hard to change the web-site name now – easier if we just change English.

Best wishes on your B-Day and many happy returns. So far I have gone through a ASUS EEEPC700 2G Surf and an Acer Aspire One. Currently using and loving my 2 TC1100 tablets. Really be interesting to see what holds forth in your second year and beyond.

    Mike

  • Louis

I've made liliputing my homepage. What more can I say?

Also known as cotton duck in the clothing industry, there is nothing more durable than a material that has carhartt coats survived the worst hurricanes and gales whilst out on the ocean.
