As more and more netbooks are becoming available with integrated 3G wireless broadband modems, it makes sense that we’d start to see dual purpose wireless chips that can help save some space inside a cramped netbook case. China’s Huawei Technologies is introducing a new mobile broadband module that packs WiFi and HSPA support onto a single piece of hardware.

The Huawei EM722 is designed specifically to work with Classmate PCs using Intel Atom processors, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be used in other netbooks with Atom CPUs as well.

The card allows 7.2 mbps HSPA download speeds, and supports 802.11g WiFi with transfer speeds of up to 54 mbps.
