Acer working on a touchscreen netbook

Acer may have just unveiled a whole slew of netbooks, laptops, and low power desktop computers. But the company is already looking ahead and working on its next next generation of mini-laptops. DigiTimes reports that Acer’s third generation netboook will be out by the end of the year and will feature a touch screen display. Another generation of Acer netbooks (which DigiTimes refers to as the fourth generation) should be out in 2010.

I’m not quite sure how Acer is counting generations. First there were the 8.9 inch laptops with Linux and flash memory. Then we had 8.9 inch models with hard drives and Windows XP. Next, we had 10 inch models with Windows. And Acer’s latest product announcements cover a new set of 10 and 11.6 inch mini-notebooks. Which makes me think you could reasonably call a new touchscreen model a fourth or fifth generation Acer netbook.

Anyway, naming conventions aside, this means Acer will soon be joining Asus, Gigabyte, and computer makers building machines based on the Intel Classmate 3 reference design in offering touchscreen netbooks.

Enough already! Acer is getting carried away. They should have taken notes from Asus releasing several netbooks. There market share dropped and it put them in second place. Acer should have stopped with the 10 inch models.

Buy limiting the number of models would have made them (in my opinion) seem like they where really listening to the consumer and not just making different models to keep up with there competitors. If company's focused on less products with better quality they would concur the market. Instead they want to produce more product with crappy quality and this to me is what is going on with Acer and the netbook market.

Hey Acer, do you see whats going on with the American auto industry? Built a lot of crappy products and now they are going bye bye.(subtle hint)
