Woz is cool with hackintosh Fakebook Minis

Apple may not look  too kindly on hackers’ efforts to get OS X up and running on non Apple hardware. But Apple co-founder, and Dancing With the Stars contestant Steve Wozniak doesn’t work for Apple anymore. And he seems to think netbook hackintoshes are pretty cool. Or at least that’s what he told one Boing Boing Gadgets reader while autographing his Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook running OS X.

Of course, having Woz sign your netbook doesn’t make it a Macbook Mini. Neither does slapping an Apple sticker over the still-visible Dell logo. But there are ways to make a fakebook look more authentic.

Until Apple gets around to launching a 9 or 10 inch netbook with a sub-$500 price tag, I guess a hackintosh is the next best thing. Or rather, a hackintosh netbook signed by a co-founder of Apple is the next best thing.

    I always thought Woz was cool.

    Could the sticker be anymore transparent? :P

  • turn.self.off

    not really a big surprise as woz was always open for tinkering. he was giving away scematics for the “apple1″ back in the day, until jobs talked him into starting apple (without him there would not be much of a company).

    jobs is the control freak of the duo…

    I think the fact that you can still see the Dell logo through the Apple logo adds a touch of coolness to it!

    “I'm a Mac”, I'm a PC”, no wait “I'm a Mac inside a PC”!

  • BoloMKXXVIII

    Agreed. The translucent sticker adds to the confusion as to what it really is. It has the heart of a Dell but the mind of a Mac.

    I read that as: “That is just the way Steve W. is.”
    As t.s.o posts, this goes back to some of the basic differences between the two founders;
    Steve W. has always taken this sort of position.
    (And yes, t.s.o. is correct about the schematics – I held a copy in my hands at the time.)

  • turn.self.off

    i would have stuffed that in some kind of fire proof container.
