VGA cable for HP Mini 1000 now available

hp-mini-vga-cable

The HP Mini 1000 netbook is about an inch thick and weighs just 2.25 pounds. But in order to achieve that small size, HP made a few compromises. The maximum hard drive capacity is 60GB, because HP wanted to use a relatively inexpensive 1.8 inch hard drive (and anything with more storage would have cost more). And instead of a full sized VGA port, there’s a proprietary display port that requires a VGA adapter.

While the HP Mini 1000 has been on sale for several months, the VGA cable hasn’t been available for purchase… until now.

HP finally has the VGA cable in stock. You can now pick one up for $19.99 from the HP web site, with same day shipping.

Update: As of mid-2011, HP no longer sells this cable. If you’re looking for a VGA adapter for the HP Mini 1000 you may be able to find a new or used adapter on eBay. Or you can search elsewhere for anyone selling the cable. It’s official part number is FY828AA.

A non-standard VGA port that requires a $20 attachment that is barely becoming available? Deal killer if you ask me. The HP is officially off my list of potentials.

@Lee – It's nonstandard because the body of the Mini 1000 is too thin for a DB15 VGA connector.

What drives me crazy is that it took so freaking long to ship a dumb cable!

i checked it today at 3:14 PM, and it is sold out :'( i love my hp but it's so annoying that it does not come with the adapter when i bought my mini 1000 plus the fact the computer stores at my small town don't have this adapter available. i guess i'm going for usb-vga adapter.

The Hp Mini Netbook has been a great computer with a nice key board and sleek design. One of its short comings is the port used to attatch your “netbook” to a larger moniter. Unfortinatelly this cable adapter, known as the Hp Mini VGA Cable is almost impossible to buy. If you visit the HP website, this cable is labled as “Sold Out—Check back soon”
I hope I can buy this cable soon, either that or I will obtain eye strain!

Yes, and it seems to cost $34.95, not 19.95 like this site suggests!

Looks like they bumped the price up to $35. =(

Wait-you bought a netbook rather than a notebook, and you don't like the smaller screen size? So, why did you buy a netbook? The extra 2 lbs gonna kill your back?

the new hp mini's are slightly larger and do not require this cable. alas mine does, the significant other's new hp mini is slightly taller, and has a vga port.

If you find it for $19.99 then you pay $20 shipping, this cable isnt that cheap

  • researcher

oh and then you have to pay for another cable because this is only an adapter. At least a $50 investment

anyone know if it’s still available? HP site doesn’t appear to have it? and ebay is sold out at the moment.

It’s taken me about 3 months of being fucked around by HP to finally crack and buy one off Ebay – and the cost of $76 NZD.

HP (a bunch of price-gouging, time-wasting arseholes) deliberately used a non-standard part to trap customers into buying something from them (and only them)… and then promptly stopped producing it, claiming it was “obsolete”.

Tell you who is obsolete. Fucking HP. I’ll never buy another machine off them again as long as I live.
