Taiwan Mobile launches a netbook

taiwan-mobileThere’s a growing trend of telecommunications companies around the world offering subsidized netbooks to customers who sign up for mobile broadband plans. This is the sort of thing they’ve been doing with cellphones for years. And as with cellphones, most mobile providers are offering popular brand name netbooks from companies like Asus, Acer, Dell, and HP.

But Taiwan Mobile is taking a different road. According to DigiTimes, Taiwan Mobile is launching a netbook under its own brand name. The W101 netbook will weigh just 2.1 pounds, have a 10 inch screen, an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 8GB SSD and run Windows XP. It will sell for NT $14,800 or about $420 US and it comes with a 3.5G modem for connecting to the internet on the go.
