HP Mini 1000 6 cell battery in its natural environment

As I reported the other day, HP is now shipping the extended 6 cell battery for the HP Mini 1000 netbook. The battery provides twice the run time of the standard 3 cell battery. It’s also at least twice the size. If you want to know what it looks like before purchasing one, check out this Flickr photo set from one of the first customers to get the new battery. There are a handful of shots of the new battery including a few images comparing it with the 3 cell battery and a few more showing what it looks like when inserted into the netbook.

The long and short of it is that the battery sticks out like a sore thumb. But we already knew that. There is some good news though. Posting in the MyHPMini forums, the user says that the netbook fits comfortably into his carrying case with the new battery inserted. And he says that when the computer is resting on his lap the battery doesn’t really change anything at all. When resting on a desk, the battery does add a little tilt to the keyboard.
