9 Cell Acer Aspire One battery good for nearly 9 hours

Not happy with the standard 3 or 6 cell batteries that come with most Acer Aspire One netbooks? You can find a variety of 9 cell batteries on eBay. These third party batteries have prices ranging from around $58 to $80. It’s worth noting that third party batteries can be hit or miss. Some people have purchased similar batteries and found that they run down quickly or have other defects. But they’re also generally cheaper than anything you can find from the computer manufacturer — and Acer doesn’t even make a 9 cell battery.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get a decent quality battery that can provide a serious boost in battery life. One member of the Netbook News.de forums picked up a 9 cell Aspire One Battery from Amazon and posted an extensive review. He reports that it lasted for almost 9 hours under regular use. It was good for about 6 hours of DVD playback.

The only down side is that the battery is significantly larger and heavier than the standard Aspire One battery. Check out the picture after the break to see just how much bigger.

    Wheels optional or standard?

It looks like a womans high heel shoe. The keyboard will be at such a rakish angle ya gotta look up to type on it… It would be better if the battery sat out and back as opposed to raising the unit at an angle.

  • Linc (MonkeyKing)

That is the stupidest battery ever made. Why would you want to type at a 28 degree angle on a now 4.9 lb netbook?

I just received my 9-cell battery (for my Acer Aspire ONE) yesterday from Amazon's storefront, BrainyDeal. Yes, it does elevate the rear of the computer, but for me it's the perfect angle for comfort, plus it allows for better air circulation, keeping the unit cool. Because of its weight, make sure that you slide the locking tab to the locked position. It seems that it could potentially slide off without it being securely locked.

The battery shipped with about a 30% charge and they recommend a full overnight charge the first time. Once fully charged, I put it to the test. I have a wireless USB mouse, an external Seagate 250 GB (USB powered) hard drive, Wi-Fi turned on, and screen intensity set to a medium brightness.

After the first 2 hours, the meter was still showing 91% remaining. I did a full hard drive backup to the external Seagate Go Drive, ran defragmentation, and other apps that were disk intensive. Bottom line, I got nearly 11 hours from the first charge — and I gave it a hard workout! I'm sure that under normal use, I could easily achieve 12 hours of use.

The Pros: Superb (totally) wire-free operation, very comfortable keyboard angle when using the laptop on a desk or table, and the blue color even matches my laptop.

The Cons: It takes a lot longer to charge, and it does weigh more than the original 3-cell battery.

In my opinion, anyone who has the Aspire ONE should definitely consider buying one of these batteries. You won't be disappointed!

I just found one that is $84, claims 7200 mAh (vs 2900 for reg 3 cell), and weighs 466g, or about 1 lb. If you leave your 3 cell behind, that makes the total weight maybe 3 lbs instead of 2.3 lbs… Not a bad tradeoff for 3x longer battery life.

Have you seen the Aspire One? The lid doesn’t allow the battery to sit out at the back.

how to fix a non full charge 9 cell battery for my 532h acer aspire one

  • Stefan

@Ben, you do know that it will sit “downwards” and lift the laptop up! The battery does fit :) And of cause 9 hours and more on the 9 cell is optimal for travel and people in the field – It’s not about the looks…

sure wish I got that much out of my 3 cell.  Lasts maybe 2 hours.  I travel for my job, and having a super long life battery will make a big difference.  The one I ordered is 7200mAh.  If get 5 hours out of it I’ll be satisfied.

  • grayLTD

Agreed.  I’m a network analyst. I have a full power dual core laptop, but for most days it’s just too much weight to carry.  So I use my Acer Aspire One to do the job.  Nothing sucks more than asking the customer when I get on-sight.  “Do you have a plug-in?”   My wife pointed out to me too, we’re flying out to see my father this summer, and we fly from Columbus to Atlanta *not bad*, but then from Atlanta to Seattle.  You can bet we’ll be using the external DVD drive I have for it to entertain the kids!  I’ll take 6-9 hours of worry free run time.
