MSI is adding two new models to its X-Slim series of laptops. The MSI X320 that was launched at CES in January hasn’t hit the streets yet, but Engadget reportst hat when it does, it will be joined by an MSI X340 and X600 model.
The MSI X320 will have a 13.4 inch, 1366 x 768 display, weigh about 2.9 pounds and look an awful lot like a cheap version of the MacBook Air. But inside, the X320 is all netbook, with an Intel Atom Z520 CPU. The X340 will be the same size, but will sport a Centrino 2-based processor to deliver better performance. It will also come with both a VGA and an HDMI port.
The MSI X600 will have a 15.6 inch screen and an eSATA port on top of the same basic specs as the X340.
It’s safe to say that these upcoming machines from MSI are not netbooks. They’re too big and they’ll likely be too expensive to fall into the same category as the MSI Wind U120 or Asus Eee PC 1000HE. But I think there’s a whole market of people out there who would be willing to pay $600 or $700 for a computer with a larger screen and keyboard than a netbook, but which still weighs around 3 pounds or less.
