FAST almost instant applications and saving files (sleep mode almost instantaneous as well. Very very nice. The HP 2140 should be sold with SSD drives that are this FAST.

This is exactly why for netbooks that no one should even be thinking about hard drive at all. SSD is faster, and with ECC and wearleveling built-in the MTBF on a good SSD should be in excess of 10 years.

For an external drive… that HP (and others) should be offering as an accessory to a unit with a 16 GB SSD internal drive, well, here is an interesting device that would work and have some redundancy (only it does not need the options it has as it should come with only a RAID 1 option) See:

(note that this device has E-SATA and USB powered connector options, meaning that with the HP 2140 you could use the an Express 54 E-SATA card, or USB to use the RAID-1 very portable external hard drive enclosure) – note taht Addonics has only tested an 80 GB pair of SATA drives with the USB powered feature (per a phone call, they don't have a supply of larger drives of different manufacturer's to test).

Who cares… All netbooks should have SSDs that read/write in the 50 Mbps to 70 Mbps range (pre jkkmobile testing, as he said that less is unacceptable performance and less uses too much tax on battery)?

HP 2140 specs on the HP site list ONLY a 80 GB SSD… very strange. As it would be much better to offer 16 GB (smallest size that I find usable), and a 32 GB option as well as 80 GB cost is something that folks really don't want… so, even an 8, 16,32 GB offering as a customer choice is needed. Very strange these HP people who don't know that we are in an economy where folks who want an SSD really don't want to have the more costly 80 GB ones, and would prefer a lower priced choice.

Again, where is touch screen, where is 15-20 hours of use per battery charge, where is sunlight readable screen? The SONY Viao P is an excellent form factor (as I hate touch pads, would love touch screen instead of other options, however I can use the “thinkpad like mouse button” better than the touchpad. Who designs these things anyway (some engineers I personally know, are out of touch as their computer needs are no where near what normal mobile computer users in business need, so they don't identify with this REAL need and instead design something and some committee I think ends up deciding on it…and for some reason what they come up with falls short of what the consumer really needs. Consumer's need – touchscreen readable in direct sunlight and 15-20 hours of use per charge and in a form factor that makes the device seem NOT OBVIOUS (so portable that you forget that you have it with you, yet with a keyboard that allows for touch typing).
