First look at the new slim Acer Aspire One

aspire-one-slimAcer has yet to offer an official explanation for the publicity photos that hit the web yesterday showing what looks like a new 10 inch netbook with a slimmer chassis than the Acer Aspire One AOD150. But an anonymous source has posted some pictures of what appears to be the mystery netbook.

The netbook will reportedly have a 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 2 SD card slots, one of which can be used as extra storage when using Linux. As expected, the computer will probably ship with Linux. But contrary to what we thought, the tipster says it will have a 160GB hard drive in lieu of a solid state disk.

The netbook will have an 802.11a/b/g modem, Bluetooth, and a 3 cell/3 hour battery. It measure 10″ x 7.3″ x .9″.

I’d suggest taking all of this information with a grain of salt, until we hear from Acer. But the photos do look an awful lot like the publicity shots we saw yesterday. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the computer in the photo is running SUSE 11.1, but that was installed by the user. It’s not 100% clear what OS Acer will preload, but my money’s on Linpus Linux Lite, the distributino used for other Acer netbooks.

No SSD option sounds a bit unlikely. The whole point of the two slots on the original was that one was semi-permanent to flexibly bolster the small SSD. With a capacious hard disk as the only internal storage option, it would be a rather pointless reintroduction.

Your blog is timely reinforcement about the purpose of blogs and what I aspire to as well. Really good one!
