Online retailer ZipZoomFly changed the status of the Asus Eee PC 1000HE from pre-order to “in stock” the other day. I was a bit skeptical since most shops are still taking pre-orders. But it does look like the latest netbook from Asus is indeed shipping, because Portable Monkey found an unboxing video on YouTube.

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is the successor to the Eee PC 1000H. It has a new keyboard layout which places the shift key on the right side of the keyboard to the left of the up arrow, which should make touch typing much easier on this model. This is also the first computer I’m aware of to ship with an Intel Atom N280 CPU with a 1.66GHz clock speed and 667MHz bus speed. The Eee PC 1000HE also ships with a 6 cell, 8700mAh battery, although word on the street is that Asus could begin selling the netbook with a lower capacity battery soon.

You can order the Eee PC 1000HE for $389.99 plus shipping at ZipZoomFly. Or you can save a few bucks by pre-ordering at Amazon for $374 with free shipping. But you might have to wait a few days longer to get your computer.

Lower capacity battery … not the first time we've heard of someone doing this is it? Guess it's a little scam to make sure less discerning tech reviewers get the decent examples, laud the wonderful battery life in the reviews they typically rush to press, and hope no-one notices when the reality bites.
