A closer look at the Samsung NC10 special edition touchpad

  • Email

nc10-special-touchpadOver the weekend Amazon started taking preorders for a new special edition version of the Samsung NC10 netbook. For the most part the computer is just like any other Samsung NC10. But it has a higher capacity battery, a glossy screen, and a wider touchpad.

One of the biggest complains users had with the original model was the tiny touchpad. NetbookNews.it managed to get a few photos of the new touchpad, which looks much wider and easier to use. There’s also no line on the right side of the touchpad indicating a scrolling section, which makes me wonder if the new touchpad has a Eee PC 1000H-like multi-touch feature.

    Correction:
Samsung does implemented multitouch to nc10 since its launch.

you can 2 finger scrolls, pinch and 3 fingers right click etc. hence it's nothing new about the touchpad.

It is probably early to ask, but I'll do it anyway. Does this thing have the same OSX incompatible ethernet hardware? If this still has multi-touch, an OSX compatible ethernet adapter I would consider buying. (Higher res screen would be nice too.)

Usually the term “special edition” means a temporary or one-time thing. Does this mean that this will be made in limited quantities to bridge the gap to the next model?

Very nice, but not enought to make me jeloiuse. As I see it the NC10 needs two things:

    1) The indicator lights need to appear 'on top' or curve around the endge of teh case. Their current postion on the narrow side is poor and the light as actully very small.

    2) The touch pad is now better, but I want a touch-screen in that space. A screen that could show all sorts of buttons as images that could then be touched. Imagine hitting CCtrl-Alt-F and that area pops-up a standard 'number pad' (0-9, + – del, enter) that you could then touch. (A lot to ask, but admit it…awesome)

The official photos are on Amazon now, and the touchpad (and keyboard) is different from the one shown on this page. You may want to update the photo.

Actually, it looks like those “new photos” are the same old ones..

Compare the keyboard from the Amazon link below with the image at the top of this page:

Both keyboard AND touchpad look different to me (compared to the photo at the top of this page). Maybe you're looking at Amazon UK page?

If you zoom in you will notice on the old one there are 4 lines ont he scroll bar and 5 on the new ones
