3G Toshiba netbooks headed to Europe, Africa, Middle East

  • Email

Toshiba still hasn’t released a mini-laptop in the US, but the company is reportedly planning to ship an updated version of the Toshiba NB100 with HSPA connectivity in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The laptops should be available within the next few months.

The HSPA modems will support download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and upload speeds of up to Mbps.

There’s no word on the price. My guess is that the modems will add an extra $100 or $200 to the base price of the mini-notebook, but wireless carriers may subsidize the cost of the modem or even of the whole netbook for customers who sign up for long term service plans.

if you don't have this in the US I wouldn't worry too much. The ones I've seen in Australian stores are way over priced compared to the competing products. Looks like a Dell 9 inch except the price tag is a few hundred more. They are NOT selling very well compared to Acer Aspires, Dell and Asus models (who take up most of the shelf space and advertising junk mail).

Finally, why do they leave Europe last, a lot of people are interested in this kind of mini notebooks, and nb100 is probably best of them
