New Acer Aspire One images, dimensions unveiled

aspire-one-103-imagesWe have a few more details about the upcoming Acer Aspire One netbook with a 10.1 inch screen. The new mini-laptop will be Acer’s first netbook with a 10 inch display, but itlooks like the new screen won’t add much size or weight to the machine.

Macles, the site that brought us the first leaked images of the netbook, (which may be called the Acer Aspire One 103), has posted some new images of the netbook in white, black, red, and blue. Interestingly, Macles also has new weight and dimensions information.

The original Acer Aspire One measures 249mm x 195mm x 36mm. The new model is 260mm x 185mm x 34mm. So while it is a bit wider than the current generation netbook, it’s also a bit thinner and less deep. The version with a 3 cell battery will weigh 2.6 pounds, or 1.18kg, compared with 2.4 pounds or 1.11kg for the original Aspire One. A 10 inch Acer netbook with a 6 cell battery will weigh 2.9 pounds or 1.33kg, compared with 2.8 pounds or 1.26kg for the original version.

Macles reports the new netbooks will also get slightly better battery life, which is surprising since a larger screen probably draws a bit more power. I’ll be curious to see if Acer has tweaked the batteries or taken other steps to prolong battery life.

Update: French magazine SVM reports that the higher end versions of the new netbook will also use the new Intel Atom N280 CPU which has a slightly higher bus and clock speed and improved graphics performance.

Damn, I want to trade up now! I'd like the black in all black though, not sold on the two-tone

Live dangerously – just use kg – I'm sure that everyone here knows that 1kg = 2.205 lb !

Glad I waited. The question is will this or the Dell 10 be the one to get
