MSI Wind U120 reviewed

The folks at Laptop Magazine and Wired’s Gadget Lab have each had a chance to spend some alone time witht he new MSI Wind U120 netbook. The netbook features just a few modest changes from the original MSI WInd U100 laptop. It has a new chassis, two mouse buttons below the touchpad instead of one, and a new facial recognition feature that lets you login to your computer just by looking at it.

While Gadget Lab says the new touchpad is larger and easier to use, Laptop Magazine, which has a much more comprehensive review says it’s still the same size and disappointingly small. Even more interesting, Laptop Magazine says the U120 gets about 30 minutes less battery life than the U100. The new netbook tops out at about 4 and a half hours of use while the older laptop lasted for about 5 hours of web browsing.

On the bright side, MSI expects to sell the Wind U120 for just $379, which is about $70 less than a U100 with a 6 cell battery.

“…a new facial recognition feature that lets you login to your computer just by looking at it.”

Yes, but can I look at it ….funny? Also, can it detects if my head is still attached to my body, that is a concern in most sci-fi settings.

I'm fairly certain Joanna and Brian didn't test the headless body
    scenerio. But you never know…

Once the head is removed from the body, you will no longer
care who has access to your Net-Book. No Head, No Problem.

Hi, I'm robvlc from msiwind.es I made a review of U120 a month ago, and recently I had put the 3 parts in only one article. Review, benchmarks & video tests:

    http://www.msiwind.es/2009/01/15/analisis-msi-w…

I've noticed a lot of different things/opinions from those reviews.

In my opinion, touchpad is the same size too in U120 & U100, at least with the U120H I tested 2 months ago. I agree with wired that touchpad had a better texture and buttons where improved from among U100.

In 3dm 03 I scored 730 without overclock because it lacked of a bios with overclock in that moment.

and during tests system was very cool min 26-56 ºC max.

    greetings

Would a full size photo fool the software?
