MSI may have already spilled the details about its latest netbook offerings long before the start of CES, but that doesn’t mean the company is all out of surprises. I stopped by the MSI booth at CES Unveiled this evening and spotted this MSI Wind U115 netbook with a 9 cell battery which should provide 10.5 hours of battery life.Â
Of course, the battery is absolutely humongous, weighs almost as much as the netbook itself, and is kind of ugly. But 10.5 hours!
It turns out that MSI hasn’t actually decided whether to offer a 9 cell battery to consumers. You can already find 9 cell batteries for the MSI Wind U100 and several other netbook models on eBay. But these are typically made by third parties, and there’s no real quality control. Some batteries perform as advertised, while others perform little better (or even worse) than the smaller batteries that come with the netbooks. So it would certainly be nice for customers looking for all day computing power if they could pick up super high capacity batteries directly from a netbook maker like MSI.
The company was also showing a Wind U115 netbook with a 6 cell battery that looked far more appropriately sized for the computer. You can check out a few photos of the batteries after the break.
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t it say:
“Amazing long battery life: 6Cell battery for 10.5hrs”
Is this a typo? Or does it mean that the 9 cell will last over 10.5hrs :0
