How to turn an MSI Wind netbook into a tablet

People have been taking apart Eee PC netbooks and turning them into tablet style computers for ages. But one member of the MSI Wind.net forums is working on the first MSI Wind U100-based tablet I’ve seen to date. And it’s pretty slick looking.

Basically, the hinges on the guy’s netbook broke, so the lid was falling off the computer anyway. So he does the only reasonable thing and embarks upon a journey to add a touchscreen and build a custom case for his netbook out of plexiglass so you can see the internal components. The entire forum thread is a great read for anyone who’s ever considered doing the same thing, as he’s posting about his challenges, design ideas, and taking advice from the community.

There are also a ton of high quality pictures of the MSI Wind motherboard and other hardware. So even if all you want to know is how to fix a broken LED or add a 3G modem to your netbook (you know, instead of building a whole new case from scratch), the forum thread could prove usefull.

I wish someone would come out with a slate netbook that's available in the US and resonably priced.
