Acer files patent for a keyboard-less Mobile Internet Device

acer-midIt looks like Acer could be working on more than a 10 inch netbook. The company has filed for a patent on a mobile internet device or MID. There’s virtually no information available about the device yet. All we have are a few pictures showing a computer that is all screen and no keyboard.

It loks like there are a few ports and connectors, including what may be an SD card slot. But I can’t tell you what kind of memory, storage, processor, or operating system are in there. We don’t even know how large this mobile device will be. It could be your run of the mill MID, or it could be a CrunchPad-style 12 inch behemoth.

As UMPC Portal suggests, the most interesting thing may not be the fact that Acer is working on a MID, but the fact that Acer has the infrastructure and expertise to mass produce these things cheaply, which means it could cost a lot less than your average MID.
