Sony teases VAIO New Mobile device

Just in case you had any doubts left in your mind that Sony was preparing to launch a new mobile device, the company has posted a teaser for a “VAIO New Mobile” on its Japanese home page. The Flash ad shows a woman pulling something out of her bag that appears to be the size of an envelope. It’s also the size of her handbag, which makes me wonder if she has room for anything else in there, like maybe her keys and money?

Anyway, it’s too early to say whether this device will be a “netbook,” per se, or a MID or more traditional UMPC. But if it has a full keyboard, a screen, and is priced around $500 or less, I’d be happy to call it a netbook. As long as I don’t get a cease and desist letter asking me to stop using that term. But as a Sony product, I’ll be happy if it’s priced under $800. Not necessarily happy enough to pay for one. But still happy.

That is the size of the checkbook needed to buy a Sony netbook. ;)

Keep the model, skip the device. :)

Middle part of that flash shows an “envelope” that is about 1/2 inch thick. Maybe this is kind of like HP's Jornada 728, (which had a half VGA screen). More likely to be half WVGA?

i'll make a few guesses about the device

    * windows only. so i won't be interested
    * very expensive. sony does not make cheap.
    * will have a stack of drm built in.

pity as sony do make very good hardware.
