It’s official: Coby is NOT releasing a $100 netbook

The other day a story was making the rounds that low cost electronics maker Coby was working on a $99.95 netbook which would be sold through the same retail channels that carry Coby MP3 players, DVD players, and other items. Even after some doubt was cast on the rumor, I held out hope. But now SlashGear has printed an official statement from the company which couldn’t be clearer:

Coby Electronics Corporation is not currently producing a PC nor is one headed to market at any price under the company’s name.

To read the whole statement, check out SlashGear. But the gist is that Coby keeps an eye on all possible markets but hasn’t decided to jump into the PC or netbook markets yet.
