Eee Box B204, B206 in pictures
More details are emerging about the two new Eee Box low profile desktop or “nettop” computers Asus plans to introduce. As previously noted, the Asus Eee Box B204 and B206 will each sport a 1.6GHz Intel CPU, a 160GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and ATI Radeon HD 3400 graphics processors with 256MB of dedicated video memory and HDMI outputs. The B204 model also has Bluetooth support and a built in battery that acts as a UPS or uninterruptable power supply in the event of a power outage.
And now, thanks to Blogeee we have the first pictures of the new Eee Box models. The computers look a lot like the original Asus Eee Box B202, but the DVI output has been replaced with an HDMI port. You can use a DVI adapter if your video hardware doesn’t support HDMI.
Eee PC Italia also tracked down the user manual for the Eee Box B204 and has posted a series of images including pictures of the nettop’s remote control. Yup, this nettop come with remote controls, which makes the tiny desktop computer an ideal media center PC. You know, except for that whole underpowered processor thing.
While the Intel Atom processor is plenty fast enough to playback standard definition and in some cases HD video, I wouldn’t really count on this machine for recording large amounts of TV, even with a USB TV tuner. For that, you might want a higher end system, like the ones provided by VidaBox or Okoro Media Systems. Or the HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC we’ll be giving away this month. Or you could always build your own, but I’d recommend something with a faster processor and larger hard drive.
Of course, if you don’t need to record live TV and just want a cheap, tiny computer to hook up to your HDTV to watch web video or stream audio or video to your television over the home network, the B204 might be the way to go.
