I've never had "hands-on" with either device, but don't they both use mini-PCIe slots for the SSD? Are you talking about the length of the card itself and space available for it?

Since 'disc' or 'disk' connotes something circular, why don't we just keep the same SSD acronym and call them solid state 'drives,' or, if we must, static storage drives?

As for obsolete inaccuracies, I don't have time to think about it, I've got to get back to my cowboys and Indians, er, Native Americans movie ;)

Dean--for one thing, the Eee slot is longer, some 7cm rather than the 5cm available in the Dell.

Why are these specifically for the Mini 9? Technically shouldn't these work in any of the netbooks that have this type of PCI-E connector? What is to stop me from putting the SSD from my eee into a Mini 9?

Looking at the photo in this article really makes me wonder how much longer will we be calling static storage 'disks'. As NAND prices drop and storage increases these devices will become more commonplace, especially in portable computers, so it seems to me that calling them disks will become either obsolete or increasingly inaccurate.

This is of course not a dig at your Tech reporting, Brad - you have a prestigious Ink Blot award to prove your mad skillz :-). More of an observation of the industry and one of the foibles of human nature to hold on to old values no matter how inaccurate they become.
