Axioo PICO DJM 616: Another MSI Wind clone

axioo-picoIt’s been a little while since a company I’d never heard of released an MSI Wind U100 clone. It used to happen nearly every week. But with the MSI Wind U110, 115, and 120 on the horizon, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised that we don’t see good ole U100 clones as often as we used to. Still, Hardware Zone just posted a review of the Axioo PICO DJM 616, which appears to be — you guessed it — an MSI Wind U100 clone from a company I’d never heard of.

Like the original MSI Wind U100, the Axioo PICO DRM 616 has a 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, and a 3 cell battery which is good for between 2.5 and 3 hours of battery life. It also has a 160GB hard drive, 3 USB ports, 802.11b/g WiFi and a 3-in-1 card reader.

The netbook is slated for release in Singapore. No word on whether it will be available internationally or how much it will cost.

In my country a local company named 'Bangho' released what seems to be another MSI Wind clone which is a few bucks less than the MSI device (Wind here U$S760, Bangho's clone U$S630, which isn't that cheap when cheap full notebooks cost U$S660. Yes, here (Argentina) we have such high taxes, but since Bangho's devices are ensambled in my country they are kinda cheaper). Also, the device comes with *sigh* Windows Vista Starter, the crappiest version of that hell, which can only open 3 apps at the same time, plus other silly restrictions, for the value of… U$S60.

UPDATE: It's U$S630 because of a promotion, after that the price will go higher, possibly after 31 December. Sad.

Anyways, here's the link to Bangho's netbook: http://www.bangho.com.ar/productos/ficha.php?mn… (in spanish)
