Asus shoots for 44% Eee PC sales growth in 2009

Asus is hoping to increase its notebook sales by 10% next year, and its netbook division has a huge part to play in that goal. Asus expects to ship 44% more Eee PC netbooks in 2009 than in 2008, which would mean shipping 7.2 million netbooks.

On the one hand, I suspect 2009 will be a big year for netbooks. A lot of people are just starting to learn that this product category exists. On the other hand, while Asus practically single-handedly created the idea of a consumer oriented netbook, the company faces stiff competition from Acer and other mini-laptop makers.

So will the company be able to meet its goals? I have no idea. But I do know that it’s going to be a good year for netbook enthusiasts with a ton of products flooding the marketplace.
