VIA and NVIDIA scrap netbook collaboration

VIA is pretty much focusing its C7 and Nano CPUs for mobile devices on computers for the developing world at this point. And that means you’re not likely to see VIA-powered netbooks showing up at your local Best Buy anytime soon. But if you were still holding out hope that VIA would manage to get its chipset into something a bit more consumer friendly than the Everex Cloudbook, there’s a bit of bad news this week.

DigiTimes reports that VIA and NVIDIA have scrapped plans to cooperate on a platform for netbooks and MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices). The idea was to bundle VIA’s C7-M and Nano processors with NVIDIA MCP79 IGP chipsets. Right now VIA processors use integrated S3 Chrome graphics. And while the new Nano CPU is supposed to be far more powerful (if also more power-hungry) than the C7 chip, it still uses the same old Chrome graphics.
