I'm inclined to agree with garysims. The gap between netbooks and notebooks is closing. What about the other direction? Smaller, lighter, but still capable machines. I own two netbooks, a Asus EeePC 701 and a Lenovo s10. Both are excellent but they serve somewhat different purposes. There are degrees of portability and so far nothing beats the original under 2lb 701 at ultraportability. I would like something no bigger and no heavier than the 701 but with a bigger screen and keyboard and preferably lighter still. I think that is possible because the 701 didn't seem to utilize its form factor as well as it might have.

I think a dual core Atom based netbook is inevitable but of course it would increase the drain on the battery. It is still odd that the netbook have been getting closer and closer to laptops... Personally I would like to see the netbook format go more towards improving the solid state drive capacities and staying with 7 or 9 inch displays but adding touch screen.
