OLPC XO Laptop Give 1 Get 1 program launches

amazon-g1g1As expected, the OLPC Foundation and Amazon are kicking off the second Give 1, Get 1 program today. Here’s how it works. You can spend $199 to donate an XO Laptop to a child in a developing nation. Or you can spend $399 and pick up one for yourself and have one donated on your hehalf.

The US order page is already live, but not everything will be working properly until later today. For example, if you click on the $199 “give one” button, you get a message saying your search didn’t find any results. But if you follow the $300 “give one get one” button, you can proceed to checkout.

The program will also be available in Europe soon, but the European Amazon.com order pages don’t seem to be up and running yet.

And just in case you had any doubt that these laptops are appreciated by students in the developing world, check out Laptop Magazine’s excellent Mali journals. The magazine donated 30 XO Laptops to a school in Mali last year and wrote an excellent series of articles documenting the experience.
