Samsung NC10 update: More photos, more places to buy

As reported yesterday, Samsung has officially announced that it’s bringing its line of laptops to the US, including the much-anticipated Samsung NC10 netbook. Laptop Magazine got some hands-on time with the NC10, and noted that it comes with a 6-cell battery, a 93% full size keyboard with sturdy construction. And it weighs 2.8 pounds, which is quite light compared with the 3.2 pound Asus Eee PC 1000H, although a hair heavier than the 6-cell MSI Wind U100.

The US model will have:

Display: 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixels
Storage: 160GB HDD
Webcam: 1.3MP
Connectivity: 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet
Expansion: 3 USB ports, 3-in-1 card reader, VGA output
Dimensions: 10.3″ x 1.2″ x 7.3″
Weight: 2.8 pounds
Price: $499

The netbook also includes system recovery software and the ability to switch between power saver and high performance modes. In power saver mode the CPU speed is cut and the display backlight is dimmed to, you know, save power.

It’s worth noting that while Buy.com showed a $475 price for the Samsung NC10 yesterday, that price has been raised to $499. You can now also pre-order the Samsung NC10 at Amazon for $499. It’s available in metallic blue and metallic white and will likely ship in November if not sooner.

I found it available for pre-order on GovConnection (the personal purchase side of the site) for $470. According to the site, it is the version with XP, 160 GB hard drive, and 6-cell battery.

I already have an Eee PC 900 (when it had the rebate). From what I've read about the NC10, it looks like a better keyboard layout. The Eee keyboard layout is a PITA especially when I keep hitting the wrong keys when reaching for the bottom row keys.

I don't know. I know I shouldn't but it looks cool, and the larger screen and keyboard would make it a bit easier to use than the 900.

It's nice to see a 2GB RAM option with the NC10, though strangely if you add it as an upgrade to the 1GB model it costs and extra €70 whilst when you just scroll down you find the 2GB model for just €29 more, or a total of €429

I was in the Columbus Circle Samsung Experience Store in the Time Warner Center in NYC on Saturday, October 18. They don't have any NC10 and said they might have display models in November.

does anyone know the exact memory specification for the nc10? various upgrade sites show DDR2 667 200 pin SODIMMs but the samsung web site shows DDR2 800Mhz compatibility. i don't know which to believe. can anyone confirm?

bought mine from ebay. sealed in factory box but it came with ddr2 667MHz
not sure about those sold from buy.com or newegg.
was wondering why too. so i guess it does come in two variations but 800MHz is the max nc10 support.
