Just buy a mini-notebook from Asus or others, and hack in the Mac OS X. Easy to do, and LOTS cheaper than their overpriced, and not really that much better hardware. My MacBook Pro has now required TWO new system boards. Geez.

My understanding is that the iBook line was introduced at $1299 to $1499 and
eventually offered a computer for $999. I guess technically that is under
$1000, but it's really just the way marketers like to price $1000 machines.
Either way, ti doesn't come close to an $800 price point.
Still, I may be technically wrong, so I'll update the post.

Those photos are of the 13" MacBook and 15" MacBook Pro. They have nothing to do with the $800 price point rumor. So on that, sorry, you're off base.

However, as to Apple offering a truly cheap laptop, yeah, I'm in agreement with you. Very unlikely.
