If this is your first time visiting Liliputing, you might want to check out the about page to find out more about low price ultraportable netbooks like the Samsung NC10.

Please check out the Liliputing Product Database which has a ton of information about dozens of netbooks. You may also want to subscribe to the blog in your news reader or sign up to receive email updates from Liliputing in your inbox.

It’s not as if we didn’t already know that Samsung was developing a netbook. But it’s always nice to get confirmation. And details. Lots and lots of details. Akihabara News reports that Samsung has officially announces its entry into the netbook market: the Samsung NC10.

What sets it apart from every other current generation low cost ultraportabale on the market today? Well, it’s from Samsung. Yeah, that’s about it. Here’s the skinny on the specs:

  • Display: 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixels
  • CPU: 1.6GHz Intel Atom
  • Storage: 80GB to 160GB HDD
  • OS: Windows XP Home
  • Expansion: 3 USB ports, 3-in-1 card reader, VGA output
  • Connectivity: 802.11b/g WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth
  • Webcam: 1.3MP
  • Battery: 6 cell, 8 hours (really?)
  • Weight: 1.33kg or about 2.9 pounds
  • Dimensions: 1.19 cm high, or about .5 inches
Oh yeah, and it has an anti-bacterial keyboard.
According to Pocket Lint the Samsung NC10 will be available in Europe in October for about £329 or $590 US.

That's what the press release says. But honestly. I'm guessing they measured
at the thinnest point. That's the only dimension listed. No length or width.

1.19 cm in height?! Less than half an inch?! That's simply amazing, compared to other netbooks. But, it still weights almost 3 pounds, which is comparable to others. 8 hours on the 6-cell battery would be nice though.

Interesting that Samsung uses nano silver coating on the keyboard. This has caused a lot of environmental concerns when used in other Samsung products such as washing machines, with potential problems such as encouraging the evolution of resistant bacteria.

I, being an environmentally aware consumer (and also looking for a netbook to buy) will think twice about the Samsung product for this reason.

I am also concerned about this, but am wondering if it supposedly works by toxicity or by preventing a point of attachment. The keyboard looks pretty good.

UK Site (saveonsamsung.com) has it on pre-order for £255.31 excluding VAT. Based on current conversion rates, that would be about $440 USD.

I'm thinking of replacing my Eee PC 901 with the NC10. I really fancy a bigger keybaord and screen and the little SSD has become a pain on the Eee
