Running Windows within OS X on an MSI Wind – Video

  • Email

You probably already know that you can run OS X on a netbook like the MSI Wind or Asus Eee PC 1000H if you’re not worried about violating a few end user licenses. But did you know you could run Windows programs under OS X?

While the 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU isn’t likely to win any awards for speed anytime soon, it’s apparently powerful enough to run VMware Fusion, an application that will let you boot Windows XP without logging out of OS X. You can even launch programs in Unity mode which allows you to access Windows applications from your OS X desktop without going into the Windows umm… window.

Seamonkey, the same guy who brought us a video showing a triple boot MSI Wind laptop with Windows Vista, Windows XP and OS X shot a brief video showing the MSI Wind running OS X and VMware fusion. The video also shows the MSI Wind running Garage Band, which seems to work well… if you can live with the fact that the program window is a little to large for the Wind’s 1024 x 600 pixel display.

You can check out the full video below. Keep in mind, Seamonkey has upgraded the RAM and hard drive on his laptop. And he’s using a USB WiFi dongle because OS X doesn’t recognize the Wind’s wireless card.

I think watching this clip for a Mac addict is like a vegan watching someone butcher a cow to make some juicy steaks.

I am going to defile my MSI Wind and install both Windows and Mac on it and bring it to work just to see the fanbois wince.

actually i love macs but it does not make me cringe to see this done, contrary to what alexander says. i think there are many mac lovers who want smaller hardware and appreciate this. thanks.
