Asus Eee PC S101 pictures

Asus may be busy trying to convince you that the 10 inch N10 notebook isn’t a netbook, but the company is still using the Eee PC name for the upcoming Eee PC S101… for now. Like the N10, the S101 will be a little larger and significantly more expensive than most Eee PC models. CNET snagged a few new pictures of the S101, which it says will cost between $699 and $899.

The computer will have a 10 inch display, 2GB of RAM, an Intel Atom CPU, and a choice of 32GB or 64GB of solid state memory. It’s capable of running Windows XP, but it looks like there will also be a Linux version available.

While the screen is about the same size as that on the Eee PC 1000/1000H, it looks like the laptop is a bit wider which should make the keyboard more comfortable to use.

Well, they have me confused. Not enough differences between the 1000, N10, and S101 models in my book, especially when they all use the same Atom processor. They are all (large) 1″ screen netbooks.

Asus 1000 model with Intel® Celeron M 353 processor (instead of Atom). Why????? Who knows. Asus just trying every iteration possible I suppose.

the old 1000hd model has celeron, this upcoming one has atom like 1000h, i guess that's the only difference. it says linux instead of xp like 1000h though.

IMHO there's a need for a 10-inch netbook as small and light as possible, with 32/64GB SSD and passive cooling, if it's feasable with an SSD that large. Too bad Asus doesn't seem to be trying to trim down these upscale models, especially the eee branded ones.

After taking a look at the CNET pics, I think this thing looks very swanky for an EEE, with a nice hinge and maybe a leatherish look. May carve out a new niche between the netbook and macbook air.
