Aeeeris Tablet kit turns an Eee PC 701 into a tablet PC

PSPMod and EeeUser forum member PvP_lostknight is designing a kit for converting a standard clamshell-shaped Eee PC into a tablet PC. The kit, which is available for pre-order for $60 includes a base for the computer but does not include a touchscreen. You’ll have to purcahse that separately.

The project has been plagued with a bit of controversy. PvP first announced his design over a month ago at the EeeUser forums, saying the kit would be available by September 1st. But he was slow to provide any images and even now, the only pictures available show a prototype, not a finished product. So order with care. But it does appear that folks who placed early orders were able to get refunds, so it doesn’t look like there’s anything dishonest going on. It just takes a while to bring a kit like this to market.

Saying this has been plagued with a bit of controversy is an understatement.
One of the mods of the eeeuser.com forums posted this:
“Ok, this is not going to happen often (a Mod admitting a mistake) but I think I have to admit us Mods made a mistake in trying to apply the rules flexibly. We thought there was a way in which a potentially interesting project should be allowed despite the fact that it was commercial advertising.
If and when PvP_lostknight has a product to launch he should contact ant or the Mods who will decide whether it justifies a blog announcement, perhaps with a mini review, but this will only be allowed when the product is ready for market.
Normal service with strict application of the rules is now resumed.”

Yeah, the product is a total joke piece of crap. The only guy who has a finished video of one had to use leather and gum (no joke) to make the thing work, and it still doesn't fit correctly. Definitely not worth $60, it is NOT a kit and requires hours of rigging it together. The maker is a pathological liar as evidenced by his posts and is now a rip-off artist as he hasn't responded to legitimate customer complaints about the homemade plastic the received. Stay Away!!!!
