Lenovo IdeaPad S10 (almost) available for pre-order

  • Email

Lenovo has posted an order page for the IdeaPad S10 mini-notebook. For $429 you can get a laptop with a 10.2 inch display, 512MB of RAM, an 80GB HDD, a 3 cell battery, and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU. And as one Engadget reader points out, you can apparently knock 15% off the price with the coupon code USPIDEAPAD15.

But the checkout process doesn’t seem to work just yet. While you can add a computer to your cart, add a few customization options, and proceed to checkout, when it comes time to process your payment, an error message pops up telling you to try again later.

While you can add software and hardware (like a wireless router) to your order, there does not seem to be an option to upgrade the RAM, get a 6 cell battery, or change the hard drive to an SSD. Perhaps these options will be available later. Oh, and if you want a red or white unit, you’ll have to pay an extra $10. The $429 price only applies to the black model.

The laptops also won’t actually ship until October September 9, so it probably doesn’t matter too much if you get your order in this week or next.

Update: It looks like orders are going through now. Just placed mine!

    Why didn’t DELL think of this, a pre-order website….?

Intel X4500 Graphic Chipset, supposed to support 1080p. Anyone has a clue on power consumption vs Intel 945?

I misread the asterisks. If you read them wrong, they seem to imply that no colors will be available until October. I’ll update the post in a sec!

Actually, I ordered one and it lists a ship date of 9/9.

I like that in Lenovo’s world black is the less expensive, but in the Apple world it’s black that is the premium. :)

Just order mine with a ship date of 9/9. Someone on engadget mentioned that it may come soon from a customer rep when they called him to confirm order. I didn’t get a call but maybe it’s because I payed with paypal.

What about the version with 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD?

Thanks for keeping us informed. I just ordered mine, but contrary to the other posts here, mine has an estimated ship date of 9/23/2008. Maybe because I ordered as a guest, rather than opening an account? Or did they already sell out of the first allocation?

Price was great with the discount! It makes the wait easier, knowing how much I’m saving over an equivalent EeePC!

Hmm… no 6-cell batteries. No option to up the RAM or HDD size. No shipping outside of the US. Hopefully all of these issues will be resolved over the next month.

my ship date is 09/16, so I guess they are staggering the ship dates based on the number of orders coming in….first come, first serve…

Nice! I forgot about the live.com discount. But even at $390 with tax, it
was too good a deal for me to pass up. Now I just hope that Dell really does
offer their base model Inspiron 910 for $299 because I really can't afford
to keep plopping down money on computers. :)

I picked one up not because I need one (I have 3 other net books…) but because with the LIVE.COM 10% discount plus the current %15 off Lenovo promotion, I picked up this unit with tax shipped for $368 – that's pretty good for a 10″ netbook that looks pretty well built. And the ram looks very easy to upgrade so for $20.00 you can upgrade it to 1GB in minutes.

  • Lacir

how do you use the live.com discount?

i wonder why some people are paying tax & others are not, does Lenovo have a physical presence in some states?
