Yeah, being shipped from the factory with Ubuntu (probably the Netbook Remix) is a big plus… but the Eee PCs seem to be eminently hackable, so it shouldn’t be too hard to install UNR on them myself.

I think I’m going to go for the 900A when it’s available in the US.

With Atom processors becoming almost ubiquitous to netbooks (or whatever we’re calling them this month) I think the deciding factor on which model to go for could come down to which OS it comes with. If that be the case, and this “leaked” information is correct, then I’ll take the Dell with Ubuntu over anything else… At least until Apple make a NeMactBook

For me, the biggest surprise about the keyboard was it’s reflection in that super glossy screen. Didn’t anyone else see that?

I like the keyboard, doesn’t look crampted and the loss of the F-keys are no big deal.

Don’t really care about the function keys. As long as I don’t have to pay the “Microsoft Tax” on the computer and the touchpad works (unlike the Eee 900, 901, and 1000 and newer MSI Wind machines) I will be happy.

Sadly, the keyboard is also a deal-breaker for me. Killing off the function keys? Strange placement of other critical keys. Guys – this is a KEYBOARD. It hasn’t changed significantly in decades. Quit screwing up something so basic!

The specs look pretty awesome, but the keyboard is DISGUSTING. I don’t mind the right Shift so much, but it looks like the curly braces, tilde, and backtick will all be nonstandard with the “Fn” key (but at least they put Ctrl in the bottom-left corner instead of Fn). I can’t even tell where the quote marks are in that pic.

They may or may not be targeting programmers, but when I buy a netbook you can be sure that I’ll be writing plenty of Perl and shell scripts… those “geek keys” are absolute necessities for me.
