Comparing the Eee PC 1000H and HP Mini-Note

After taking a few moments to rip my new Asus Eee PC 1000H out of its packaging, I did a quick photo shoot with the 1000H and my HP Mini-Note.

As you can see, the Eee PC 1000H is consdirably larger than the Mini-Note, and it is a tiny bit heavier. This is partially due to the larger battery. That’s the price you pay for extended battery life. The keyboard is a huge improvement over the Eee PC 701 keyboard, but not quite as touch-typable as the Mini-Note keyboard.

The display is matte style, while the Mini-Note is glossy. Conversely, the rest of the 1000H case is glossier than the Mini-Note case.

You know… if only HP hadn't put such an awful processor in the MiniNote, it really could have stolen the Eee's and Wind's thunder. Good size, excellent build quality, great keyboard, high-resolution screen, known company backing it, etc. Instead, they hamstrung it with that wretched Via chip.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

The processor isn't as bad as everyone on the web would've lead me to believe.

I'm using a Core2 Duo desktop right now. Why do I need something so powerful in my laptop as well? I bought the Mini-Note to be a small, lightweight, and durable machine to use for presentations and e-mail, not gaming. Besides, the Via Nano should be out soon…

Which process is the bad one? they have 1.0, 1.2 and 1.6. If I invested in the 1.6 processor, would it be zippy?
