The $399/$449 (Linux/XP) prices are for the new 16G models of the 900 series. Amazon misprinted the reference to an Atom CPU. The 16G models have Celerons, as is the case for the earlier 900s (12G/20G). See Asus' own webpage for the 900, which lists the 16G along with the 12G and 20G:
Note that the Asus webpage doesn't show the 16G as having storage split into 2 "drives". This seems to indicate they removed the 4G of primary (faster) SSD storage present in the older models.

Looks like they're going to offer a rebate to anyone who paid $549 for a Eee 900, starting today.

http://www.zareason.com/ASUSEeePCMIRJuly08USA.pdf

At Newegg, they also have the same 900 with the same price and specs. This should confirm Amazon's "typo".
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item...

I ordered mine last week from PortableOne. They said they had them in stock, but unfortunately I did not clarify my question enough. They had the XP verison in stock, but I ordered the Linux version. I was excited, I thought I might have my new EEE early this week, but unfortunately it won't come until next week. I'm bummed, but it looks like no one else has the Linux version up yet anyway, so I'm going to leave my order in with them. They seemed to have their ducks in a row, and when i asked about a shipping date they actually contacted ASUS and I got a reply from them, which was comforting to know they were tight. They said Linux versions are due out this week or early next week.
