Crave is reporting that the upcoming MSI Wind ultraportable will have a “turbo” button that will let you overclock the CPU by about 20% instantly by hitting Fn+F10. My guess is what this actually means it that the Wind will typically be running a bit below capacity, and you can easily switch it up to the maximum recommended speed with the push of a button.
This would have been a nice feature to include on the original Eee PC, which has a 900MHz Intel Celeron processor, but runs at 630Mhz. Of course, you can also overclock that Celeron chip to run at 1GHz or higher, so maybe it’s possible that the MSI Wind’s turbo button will actually overclock the device and boost your performance while shortening your battery life.
I haven’t seen the turbo button mentioned anywhere besides Crave, so I’m going to wait for confirmation that this feature actually exists before passing judgment.
