Fluxflux-eee: Fluxbox for the Eee PC

Looking for a light weight Linux distribution to replace the Xandros operating system Asus ships with the Eee PC? Eeextra has posted a handy overview of fluxflux-eee, and it looks purty.

More importantly, WiFi works, the hotkeys work, you can manipulate the fan speed, and you can run fluxflux from a USB stick or install it to the SSD. After installation, you should have about 2GB of free space on an Eee PC 4G.

Can’t say I’m terribly impressed by it. If even the GUI runs at an appalling frame rate, I’d say they’ve bitten off more than they can chew in the “make it look pretty” department.

Are they honestly trying to pass this off as ‘lightweight’?

I think that it’s likely what’s going on here is that the screen capture software is struggling to keep up and dropping frames, not the desktop itself. But admittedly, I haven’t tried fluxflux myself so I can’t say for sure.

That could make sense. I was assuming that was the output from a VGA-out port to a TV capture card or something.

Didn’t even know there was screen capture software for Linux.

I’d be very surprised if Fluxbox were running at an appalling frame rate. It’s extremely light on resources.

I may have to give this a try. Fluxbox should fly on a 900 16G. I run Fluxbox on an old Compaq 7360 with a 500Mhz AMD K62 and 128MB of ram with Slackware and it’s smooth. even the 700 trumps those specs.
