Asus Eee PC keyboards are as different as black & white

The folks at Laptop Magazines have made a rather surprising discovery: Asus seems to have two different keyboard designs for the current generation Eee PC. While I would have expected the only difference between the black and white Eee PC models to be the paint job, it turns out that the keyboards are slightly different.

Both keyboards are the same size. But the tips of the black keys are a bit smaller, leaving more room for space between the keys. Laptop Magazine also reports that there’s a more tactile feel to the black keyboard since you seem to be able to push the keys down a little deeper.

The black Eee PC also has a rougher plastic texture, which I noticed when I checked one out at a local store. I personally prefer the smooth feeling plastic you get with the white Eee PC. But the black model may be easier to grip, and the texture gives you a bit more confidence that your computer isn’t going to fall off your lap.
