Eee PC overview: What’s in the box

  • Email

Honk Kong’s PC Market has a hand on review of the Windows XP version of the Eee PC 900. And while there’s no official pricing information in their review, they do confirm the specs we’ve been hearing so much about:

  • 900 MHz Intel Celeron processor
  • 1GB DDR 2 RAM
  • 12GB solid state memory, divided into two partitions, one is 4GB, the other 8GB
  • Intel GMA900 graphics
  • 8.9 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display
  • 802.11b/g WiFi
  • 3 USB 2.0 ports
  • 1 VGA output
  • 1 SD/MMC/SDHC slot
  • Multitouch touchpad
  • 1.3MP webcam
  • 4 cell 5800 mAh battery
  • 12 volt power supply

It’s a little disappointing to see that the Eee PC 900 has exactly the same processor as the Eee PC 701. You can select the CPU speed in the BIOS and run the computer at either 630MHz or 900MHz. Or if you’re looking for a little more juice you could overclock it. But it looks like Asus decided to get this computer out the door as quickly as possible, which means that we’ll have to wait for the next generation before we’ll see an Atom processor or other faster chip in an Eee PC.

Update: Apparently Asus didn’t just split up the solid state disk into two partitions. The are two separate disks, with 4GB of flash memory soldered to the motherboard and the rest in a PCIe slot.

Well, I ordered the HP 2133 the other day and while I tell myself it’s because it has a larger, higher resolution display and a better keyboard, it’s possible that it was just because it’s available first. :)

    And now Brad…hp 2133 or eeepc 900 ?
